Born on June 26, 1968, in Fort Kent, Maine, Troy Dale Jackson’s early life was marked by resilience and determination. Raised by a 16-year-old mother, he grew up Catholic and has always been driven to make a difference in the lives of his fellow Mainers.

Jackson’s entry into politics came during the 1998 logging blockade along the Canadian border, where he fought for fair wages and better working conditions for Maine loggers. This experience sparked a passion for public service that would define his career.

In 2000, Jackson ran for the Maine House of Representatives as a Republican but narrowly lost to Marc Michaud. Undeterred, he was elected in 2002 as an Independent and became the first non-Democrat to represent the area since 1978. After joining the Democratic Party in 2004, he went on to win re-election in 2006 and 2008.

Jackson’s success in the House of Representatives paved the way for his election to the Maine State Senate in 2008, where he served District 35. He would be re-elected three more times, representing District 1 after redistricting, and became a prominent voice on issues like healthcare and workers’ rights.

During his tenure, he championed policies that supported Mainers, including efforts to improve healthcare access and protect workers from unfair labor practices.

Jackson’s commitment to public service has not gone unnoticed. In 2015, he was elected as a member of the Democratic National Committee, and in 2020, he received the endorsement of Senator Bernie Sanders for his re-election campaign.
